New budget airline for ZambiaA group of Zambian aviation professionals and foreign investors plan to launch Zambia's first budget airline, Mukuba Airlines.
According to a story in the Lusaka Times, the airline will be launched in "the next few months" in readiness for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) conference which will be held in Zambia in August.
The new chairman and CEO of Mukuba Airlines, Mwansa Chalwe, said that it will target domestic travellers and will be based in Livingstone. It is expected to employ 35 people in its first year and an additional 54 people in the second year.
Chalwe said the launch of the low-cost carrier had reached an advanced stage and the airline will initially use French-made Turbo Prop ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-500 aircraft to be maintained by Air Botswana.
