Afcon 2013: Bafana beat Angola, Igesund praises team's spirit
Afcon 2013: Bafana beat Angola, Igesund praises team’s spiritFans at Durban's Moses Mabhida stadium celebrated last night as Bafana Bafana got their Africa Cup of Nations campaign back on track with a 2-0 win over Angola in Group A.
Following Saturday's disappointing opening goalless draw against Cape Verde Islands at the weekend, Bafana desperately need a win, which came thanks to goals in either half by defender Siyabonga Sangweni and substitute striker Lehlohonolo Majoro, to ensure a chance of qualification to the knockout stages.
Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund hailed the team's performance but admitted recent criticism of him and his players was warranted.
"I don't think the criticism we've been receiving has been unjustified," Igesund said after the victory. "We weren't scoring goals and just have to bounce back. These are tough situations, but ones that make us stronger.
"When we scored the first goal I was very happy because, as I said before, we're going to be a difficult team to beat.
"We kept a clean sheet last week and again today. The defenders played well again, even though some of them have come in for criticism. So it was great for us to come through with a win.
"Everyone was magnificent, from those that started to the players on the bench."
