A huge fire has broken out in the arrivals hall at Kenya's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, forcing the airport to close, to evacuate passengers and reroute all inbound flights.
The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said the airport has been closed until further notice so that the emergency services could tackle the blaze.
"We confirm reports of a fire at JKIA affecting part of [the] international arrivals building and Unit 1 departures," it said in a statement. "KAA Fire and Rescue Team is on [the] ground being assisted by G4S and Nairobi Fire Brigade. Passengers have been evacuated to safety."
According to initial reports, the fire started at 5a.m. in the immigration section of the arrivals hall. No injuries have been reported.
Inbound flights have been diverted to the coastal city of Mombasa.
