Cell C, one of South Africa's a leading mobile providers, says it has signed up a record one million customers in one month.
It brings South Africa's third mobile operator's total customer base to 11.7 million.
"I am exceptionally proud and excited to announce that for the first time in the history of Cell C we have connected more than one million customers in one month," said CEO Alan Knott-Craig in a statement. "Last night we broke through the million gross connection barrier bringing our total customer base to over 11.7 million."
Cell C is estimated to have about 17 percent market share and has come in for criticism in recent months over the quality of its network – something it blamed on capacity constraints and rival Vodacom, which it uses to provide coverage where it doesn't have its own infrastructure. Vodacom however refuted claims it wasn't living up to its end of a roaming agreement between the two operators.
