When it is finished, the rail link will be able to transport 18 million tonnes of coal a year.
The Nacala Rail Corridor Project will be undertaken by WorleyParsons' Mozambique and South Africa divisions.
WorleyParsons will also perform the detailed design of the rail facilities and maintenance complex at Nacala.
The contract was awarded by Corredor Do Desenvolvimento Do Norte S.A. (CDN).
WorleyParsons Chief Executive Officer, Mr Andrew Wood said: "We are delighted that Vale has chosen WorleyParsons for this critical infrastructure project and we look forward to assisting Vale with the achievement of its business objectives in Mozambique."
