The Super Eagles dominated the match and made the breakthrough on 40 minutes when Mba clipped the ball over Mohamed Koffi and then volleyed into the far corner.
It was Nigeria's seventh final and the win brought to end a 19-year Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) trophy drought.
Coach Stephen Keshi - nicknamed 'big boss' - became the first black African manager in over 20 years to win the continental championship, and only the second man to claim the title as a player and a coach.
"It's not for me alone. I hope more African coaches will get to this position and make their country proud," he said soon after the 1-0 win over Burkina Faso at Soccer City.
